Review Vizio - 55 Class - Led - P-series
Design
Curved No
The Vizio PQ9 looks similar to the Vizio M7 Series Quantum 2021, simply the feet are more than set inwards. Information technology has a uncomplicated design with thin borders that aren't distracting in whatever way.
The Vizio P Series Breakthrough Telly features unique feet that are designed to concur a soundbar on acme. At that place'southward safety padding on top of each foot to avoid scratching the feet or soundbar. You tin can enhance the screen higher so that a soundbar doesn't cake your view. In the regular position (pictured above), there's 1.38" from the anxiety to the screen, and raising them in the higher position gives y'all iii.5" of space, so most soundbars shouldn't block information technology.
Footprint of the 65" TV: 28" x 13.iv".
Wall Mount VESA 400x200
The back has a more than stylish design than past Vizio TVs equally information technology has rounded edges. The top part is slightly textured metal and the bottom office is plastic designed to await like brushed aluminum. At that place are clips for cable direction that you attach to the feet, and you lot tin can also attach them to the legs when in the raised position.
Borders 0.39" (1.0 cm)
Max Thickness iii.37" (8.6 cm)
This Television receiver is thicker than the Vizio P Serial Quantum 2020, just it still shouldn't stick out too much when wall-mounted.
The Vizio P Series has great build quality. It feels well-built with metal around the frame that feels solid, but the plastic on the back flexes a bit more. The Goggle box is stable on the stand up, only it sways more than forward and backward with the feet in the raised position.
Picture Quality
Native Contrast 6,793 : 1
Dissimilarity with local dimming nine,143 : 1
The Vizio P Series has a VA panel with a high native contrast ratio to brandish deep blacks. The total-assortment local dimming characteristic does a great job at improving the contrast. Information technology's better than the Vizio P Series Quantum 2020, but this can too vary between units.
Note: The 75 inch model has an IPS console, so we expect it to accept much worse dissimilarity, resulting in blacks that look gray in a nighttime room.

The SDR peak brightness is excellent. It gets bright plenty to fight glare in almost well-lit rooms, and even though brightness varies between scenes, information technology shouldn't exist that distracting for most people.
We tested the SDR peak effulgence after calibration in the 'Calibrated (Dark)' Picture Mode with Gamma ready to '2.two', Color Temperature to 'Warm' and Agile Full Array on 'High'.
If you want an even brighter image and don't care nearly accuracy, we reached an amazing 1,127 nits in the 10% window using the same settings but in the 'Vivid' Picture show Mode and Local Contrast on 'High'.
Local Dimming Yes
Backlight Total-Array
The Vizio P Series has a decent local dimming feature. It'due south an improvement over the Vizio P Serial Quantum 2020, but it's not enough to increase the score. At that place are 144 zones on the 65 inch model, and the 75 inch is advertised to have 210 zones, meaning local dimming may perform a bit differently, simply not much because the number of zones is proportional to the size. The setting for the local dimming is called Agile Full Assortment and we suggest setting it to 'Loftier'.
There'southward blooming around bright objects, which affects the uniformity, but it's not as bad every bit the 2020 model. Subtitles also have blooming effectually them to the point where information technology bleeds into nearby areas, like the blackness bars at the bottom of the screen. When there's a bright object in a dark scene, the local dimming averages out the dimming between zones, causing some blacks to look greyness. In terms of fast-moving objects, they transition between zones well in existent content. The zone transitions are more than noticeable with our test patterns, only most people won't watch content similar this. The local dimming improves the dissimilarity but as well adds blooming issues.

The local dimming feature looks the same in Game Mode as outside of it.

The Vizio PQ9 has impressive HDR peak brightness. Surprisingly, our test slides are about the aforementioned brightness as in SDR, merely the existent scene brightness is much higher, so it'southward bright enough to make highlights pop. The EOTF follows the target adequately well, but almost scenes are slightly over-brightened. Also, at that place'due south a sharp roll-off once the TV hits its peak effulgence, so extremely brilliant scenes lose details.
Nosotros measured it with the same settings equally the SDR elevation brightness, but in HDR. If you discover the prototype too dark, set the Gamma to '1.8', Color Temperature to 'Cool', and Local Contrast to 'High'. The image appears noticeably brighter, as you lot can see in this EOTF, simply information technology doesn't affect the peak brightness, and the roll-off is even worse.

Update 03/08/2022: This TV received a firmware update (5.41.29.ten-1), and Vizio advertised that the film quality would improve in Game Mode. Nosotros remeasured the HDR peak brightness, and there was no significant change from before, and then this update doesn't touch on the HDR superlative effulgence in Game Way.
The HDR brightness is once again impressive in Game Manner. The paradigm looks the same as outside of Game Way because you don't demand to modify the Moving picture Style but rather only enable the Game Low Latency setting.

The gray uniformity is decent, but this tin can vary between units. There are blotchy parts throughout, including dirty screen issue in the center which could get distracting during sports. Uniformity is better in near-dark scenes, simply there'southward also some backlight bleed at the left and correct edges.
Native Std. Dev. 0.589%
Std. Dev. w/ L.D. 1.149%
The black uniformity is first-class. It's good without the local dimming characteristic enabled, but the screen looks more blue, and at that place's still a bit of backlight drain. The local dimming helps further deepen any blacks and remove any backlight bleed, but information technology besides causes more blooming effectually the center cross. Keep in mind that uniformity tin can vary a scrap between units.
Color Washout 24°
Color Shift 30°
Effulgence Loss xxx°
Blackness Level Raise 16°
Gamma Shift 17°
The Vizio P Series has disappointing viewing angles, which is expected from a VA panel. Colors quickly outset to shift, and the image looks likewise night when viewing from the sides. At that place's an 'Advanced Viewing Bending' setting, merely it doesn't seem to ameliorate the viewing angles on other Vizio TVs, and so we didn't measure the viewing angles with it enabled on this one.
Notation: The 75 inch model has an IPS panel, then we wait information technology to accept much amend viewing angles than the 65 inch model.
Screen Stop Glossy
Total Reflections ii.i%
Indirect Reflections 0.2%
Calculated Direct Reflections 2.0%
The reflection handling is amazing. Information technology handles even nearly light sources really well, and visibility shouldn't be an issue. Still, because it has a glossy screen, direct light sources similar lightbulbs are reflected at a strong intensity, almost like a mirror.
White Balance dE 3.23
Color dE 3.09
Gamma 2.24
Color Temperature six,249 1000
Picture Mode Calibrated Dark
Color Temp Setting Warm
Gamma Setting two.ii
The Vizio P Series Television receiver has skillful out-of-the-box accurateness. Color temperature is close to the 6500K target, and near colors are only slightly off, but blues are slightly over-saturated. White balance is also off, specially brighter whites. Gamma is okay, but most scenes are too nighttime and actually vivid scenes are over-brightened. Continue in listen that accuracy can vary between units.
White Balance dE 0.18
Colour dE 2.26
Gamma two.twenty
Color Temperature 6,505 One thousand
White Balance Scale twenty point
Color Scale Yes
The accuracy after calibration is fantastic. The color temperature, gamma, and white residuum are all improved and you shouldn't notice many inaccuracies with those. Colors improved too, but we couldn't fix the blues without making the rest of the image inaccurate.
You tin see our recommended settings here.
The Vizio P Series doesn't properly display 480p content in terms of the aspect ratio. It tin can't correctly testify a 16:9 epitome in this resolution every bit there are black bars, which you lot can see in this photo. The photo above is cropped to remove the bars. Nosotros don't know how this TV displays 4:3 480p content because we only examination with 16:9 content, just it's still not suggested for watching DVDs.
This TV does a decent job at upscaling 720p content, like from cable boxes, but it's not equally good every bit other 4k TVs.
In that location aren't any bug with 1080p upscaling, which is great for watching Blu-rays.
The Vizio PQ9 displays native 4k content perfectly. However, if you enable the Advanced Viewing Angle setting, you may notice some dithering so we suggest leaving it off.
This is a 4k TV that can't display an 8k signal.
The Vizio PQ9 uses a BGR sub-pixel construction and may affect text clarity when using information technology as a PC monitor. Y'all can read more about it hither.
Note: The 75 inch model has an IPS panel, as confirmed by this pixel photo sent to us past an possessor.

DCI P3 xy 96.99%
DCI P3 uv 96.67%
Rec 2020 xy 75.67%
Rec 2020 uv 82.99%
The Vizio P Series has an amazing color gamut for HDR content. Information technology has exceptional coverage of the DCI P3 color gamut used by nearly content, and its coverage of the wider Rec. 2020 is also very good.
Normalized DCI P3 Coverage ITP 83.eight%

The color volume is good. It displays colors at a wide range of colors well, but information technology'southward not as good every bit the Vizio P Series Quantum 2020 because that TV displays a slightly wider colour gamut. However, most people won't be able to tell the divergence.

The slope handling is impressive. There's banding in the darker shades, but other than that you shouldn't discover it much. There's a Profile Smoothing that helps smoothen out banding a bit, but that comes at the loss of fine details.

In that location are no signs of temporary image retention on our unit of measurement, but this can vary.
Permanent Burn-In Risk No
We don't await VA panels to experience permanent prototype retention, every bit the VA console in our long-term test appears allowed.
Move
eighty% Response Time six.six ms
100% Response Time xv.v ms
The Vizio P Series has a decent response fourth dimension, simply it'due south much worse than the Vizio P Serial Quantum 2020. It'south noticeably wearisome in nighttime transitions, leading to black smearing with darker objects. Overall, y'all'll notice motion blur with about content, and you may as well notice image duplication due to the backlight flicker.
Flicker-Free No
PWM Dimming Frequency 240 Hz
The Vizio P Series uses pulse width modulation (PWM) to dim its backlight if you set the Backlight setting to anything beneath its max. Information technology flickers at 240Hz, including with Game Low Latency enabled, which could lead to some paradigm duplication.
Optional BFI Yes
Min Flicker For lx fps threescore Hz
60Hz For 60 fps Yes
120Hz For 120 fps No
Min Flicker for threescore fps in Game Manner 60 Hz
There's a backlight strobing feature, which is also known every bit black frame insertion, to try to articulate up persistence blur. It but flickers at 60Hz and doesn't piece of work that well considering the timing of the strobing is off, creating paradigm duplication. Nosotros saw a similar effect with the Vizio P Series Quantum 2020, just it'southward more than noticeable on the 2021 model. Continue in mind that the BFI score is based on the flicker frequency, and not the actual performance.
Movement Interpolation (30 fps) Yes
Move Interpolation (60 fps) Yep
The Vizio P Series has a motion interpolation feature, which causes the outcome known as the lather opera effect. It interpolates 30fps and 60fps content up to 120fps, and information technology works well with slower scenes, but there are a ton of artifacts with fast-moving objects.
Frame Concur Fourth dimension @ 24 fps 26.2 ms
Frame Hold Time @ lx fps i.ii ms
Due to the somewhat slower response time, there's not as much stutter on this Tv set.

Judder-Gratuitous 24p via 60i No
Judder-Costless 24p via Native Apps Aye

Update 03/08/2022: This Television receiver received a firmware update (v.41.29.10-1) and it improved the VRR range. It's at present tear-free with 4k signals over the entire refresh rate range with an AMD RX6600 XT graphics carte du jour, whereas before the update, VRR only worked up to 60Hz with 4k signals. However, fifty-fifty subsequently the update, it's still not G-SYNC uniform, and 1440p still only works within a narrow range.
The Vizio P Series has a 120Hz panel with variable refresh rate support in the class of native FreeSync. G-SYNC doesn't work at all, and it's unclear if it supports HDMI Forum VRR because the Xbox Series X supports both HDMI Forum VRR and FreeSync, and information technology's unknown which ane is actively working.

Update 03/08/2022: There was a firmware update (5.41.29.ten-ane) that improved the VRR performance and the VRR range. Nosotros tried remeasuring the VRR input lag, merely we experienced the same issue as on other TVs similar the Sony X90J, so we tin can't use those results. We're looking into information technology, and in the meantime, nosotros're keeping the VRR input lag results from before the update.
The Vizio P Serial has low input lag for a responsive gaming experience. We didn't run into every bit many issues as we did with the Vizio P Series Quantum 2020, and we were able to get more consequent readings. Input lag remains low with most content, except it increases with 1080p @ 120Hz signals, which is the same behavior as the 2020 model. We measured the 4k @ 120Hz input lag by dropping the colour depth to 8 bits and using a 4:2:0 point.

Update 03/08/2022: This Goggle box received a firmware update (5.41.29.ten-one) and it allows the TV to display more than resolutions. Unlike earlier, it displays 4k @ 120Hz signals with chroma iv:four:4 up to 12-fleck color depth, but it's non proper chroma iv:iv:4 because text looks blurry. As well, the screen glitches and goes black at times with 4k @ 120Hz signals, both in and out of Game Fashion. It displays 1440p signals with a custom resolution without skipping frames or downscaling, but it doesn't display proper chroma 4:4:4 in 1440p because the text looks blurry.
The Vizio P Series supports 4k content up to 120Hz, but there are some quirks with it, especially with chroma 4:iv:4. Although it accepts blush four:four:4 signals with any resolution at 120Hz, it doesn't properly brandish it as text looks blurry. If you want to utilise information technology as a PC monitor and display chroma 4:4:four properly for clear text, you need to apply a 1080p or 4k point at 60Hz.

Std. Dev. @ 80 iv.53 dB
Std. Dev. @ Max half-dozen.37 dB

Dynamic Range Compression iv.10 dB
The Vizio P Series has an okay frequency response. Information technology gets loud and has a fairly well-balanced sound contour, only you may hear some compression artifacts when listening at its max volume. Likewise, it doesn't produce much bass, so you should get a soundbar or a surround sound setup for the all-time audio feel possible.
Weighted THD @ eighty 0.197
Weighted THD @ Max 0.870
IMD @ fourscore ane.55%

The Vizio PQ9 comes with the updated version of the Vizio SmartCast system, merely there isn't much difference with previous versions. The interface is user-friendly, but it feels slow and laggy at times, and we experienced a few bugs during testing:
- As mentioned in the Supported Resolutions section, nosotros originally couldn't display any 120Hz signal outside of Game Manner through our PC. We had to toggle Game Depression Latency and restart the TV for information technology to even work at first. A few days later, nosotros could get it exterior of Game Fashion, simply the screen would constantly flicker black.
- We experienced issues where the remote would finish working properly at times. With our Blu-ray connected, the Telly remote would freak out, and if we pressed the directional pad in any direction, it would continue to move in that direction even after nosotros stopped pressing the remote. We had to have out the batteries and restart the TV for it to work again. This happened a few times during testing, even while using native apps and with the CEC disabled.
- The Tv would randomly turn off, and this happened many times throughout testing with unlike HDMI inputs and various situations. We made sure our cables were continued properly, so nosotros know it's not a concrete connection consequence.
